Um Samaka" - Sara Alabdali X Waad Aloqaili
In collaboration with Saudi artist Sara Alabdali, Waad AlOqaili reimagines a coastal icon through “Um Samaka” — a couture abaya that carries the rhythm of the Saudi sea within its folds.
Hand-painted waves, boats, and divers emerge across traditionally dyed fabric, recalling the songs of the nahhāms and the spirit of pearl divers who once sought light beneath the surface.
Each detail is crafted by hand. Natural pearls, mother-of-pearl, and crystal droplets shimmering like water in motion.
A single pearl-fringed tassel anchors the piece, echoing the diver’s rope, a subtle bridge between memory and mastery.
Um Al-Samaka stands as an ode to Saudi craftsmanship, where heritage becomes form, and couture becomes remembrance.
